That is clearly stated in the rule books. "The AD&D game system does not allow the injection of extraneous material. I believe that was the source of Gygax declaring in Dragon Magazine that house rules meant you were no longer playing AD&D. Players would be able to freely take their characters from one table to another, like Hackmaster players in the Knights of the Dinner Table comic, so it was essential that every game used the same rules. ![]() ![]() ![]() I remember reading somewhere that, at one point, the intention was for D&D to be used for casual home games, while AD&D would be used for a massive organized play network, like the RPGA on steroids. ![]()
